Have you ever wondered while putting on your makeup if you are doing it precisely? It happens to me very often, and I am sure that on many occasions, I have made a mistake when I’m applying my makeup. That’s why today I want to talk to you about the makeup mistakes that make you look older.
I think the most common mistakes have to do with a bad application and having the wrong product. Many times we see young girls with incredible skin, applying certain makeup products in a specific way, and we believe that if we use it in the same way, we can look like them. However, generally, this does not happen.
What happens is that to put on makeup correctly, we must first know our skin, our features, and in this way, learn what our needs are. Not all of us need the same thing, not all products are suitable for all people, and sometimes each skin type requires a different application.
For these reasons, below, I am going to mention some of the most common errors, both incorrect application and wrong product.
Common makeup mistakes on the face:
Do not moisturize your skin before makeup.
This is one of the most common mistakes. Taking care of your skin is vital if you are going to apply makeup. It doesn’t matter if you have oily or dry skin; applying a good moisturizer will make the products you put on top look better.
Not to apply primer.
I know that many of us, at some point, have or had the belief that the foundation should work by itself. However, today foundations are designed to perform with the help of a good primer.
This does not mean that you should use the primer of the same brand as the foundation. In fact, what you need is to find the primer that works best for you.
If you have oily skin, use a mattifying primer; If you have dry skin, use a moisturizer primer. If your problem is open pores, use a primer to help neutralize them.
At this time, you can find primers for any need and at great prices.
Choose the wrong foundation.
It has happened to all of us that we have chosen the foundation that was not our tone. However, this point also refers to choose the foundation with the wrong finish and coverage.
When it comes to foundation cover, if you choose one with full coverage, it will most likely look cakey. On the other hand, if you choose a very light one, you will not cover small imperfections.
If you have oily skin and choose a foundation for dry skin, the excess shine will highlight any flaws. For example, if you have open pores or fine lines, these will stand out a lot with all that shine. If, on the other hand, you have dry skin and you use a mattifying base, your skin is going to look excessively dry and aged.
Now, if you use a foundation that is lighter than your skin tone, you will look sad and dull, you can even look sick. And finally, if you use a very dark base, you will take away the luminosity and freshness of the face.
Apply a lot of product.
Be very careful with the amount of product you apply to your face. Generally, we tend to exaggerate with the application of foundation, concealer, and powder, and this causes the product to concentrate on the expression lines, which makes us look much older.
Not to blend the foundation and concealer nicely.
This is an error that generally happens to us in a specific section of the face: under the eyes. I recommend that you take special care with this area since if we put on wrong the makeup, it is the one that ages us the most.
My suggestion is that in this area, you apply little product and blend it carefully so that no creases are marked. Additionally, do not forget to seal your creamy products with a bit of powder so that they will not move everywhere.
Applying a light concealer.
A popular belief is that if you apply a very light concealer for dark circles, they will disappear easier. However, the reality is quite the opposite. A very dull concealer highlights dark circles and makes them look grayer.
What it’s recommended is to use a concealer a shade lighter than your skin to cover them and to illuminate that part of the face.
Badly blush application.
Applying blush is very important, as it makes us look fresh and youthful. However, sometimes we can get over our heads, and this, contrary to what we want, will make us look unnatural.
I recommend you apply the blush little by little and delicately, take it on the apples of your cheeks, and from there, raise it a little towards the temples, in this way, you will look healthier. Additionally, the best option is to use very subtle pink or coral blushes.
Common makeup mistakes in the eyes:
Mistakes with the mascara
Among the errors with mascara, there are two that are repeated often.
The first is forgetting to apply mascara. You must use one or two coats on the lashes above. This makes you look more awake and opens your eyes.
The second mistake is applying too much mascara. This has the opposite effect to what we are looking for since it will make your eyes close and look smaller.
Additionally, I recommend that you be very careful with the application of mascara on the lower lashes. Apply little or nothing to this part as it may highlight the dark circles.
Poorly applied eyeliner.
We must be careful when we delineate our eyes. Sometimes we leave a blank space between the lashes and the eyeliner. This makes our eyes look cut off.
Additionally, I recommend that you avoid wearing very thick eyeliner, since that makes you look tired. This can also cause bags under the eyes, dark circles, and crow’s feet to stand out.
Another recommendation is that you avoid applying dark eyeliner on the lower eyelid, as this makes your eyes look small. For this area, a beige or peach eyeliner is better, so they will look better.
Excess of shine.
Most of us love shiny eye shadows, however, we must be very careful with these. Since these types of shadows have slightly thicker particles, these particles tend to concentrate on the expression lines of the eyelids and accentuate them.
Using too many brown shadows.
This shade of shadows is one of my favorites, and undoubtedly many share this taste. However, these tones tend to age us, so if we want to look more youthful, we can use reddish and orange tones since these are more flattering.
Common makeup mistakes in the eyebrows:
Too thin eyebrows.
Overly thin brows were discontinued some time ago, and this has a reason. Eyebrows that are too thin make people look older, as they are associated with the hair loss that can occur with age.
If your eyebrows are too thin, I recommend that you make up with an eyebrow pencil or pomade.
Wrong eyebrow color.
Another thing that we must be careful with is applying a very dark tone to our eyebrows since this makes our features look very hard and additionally ages us.
Common makeup mistakes on the lips:
Not moisturize or exfoliate the lips.
Our lips, like any part of our face, require a little affection.
Before applying any lipstick, it is essential to hydrate and exfoliate them. If we do not do it, those little skin and wrinkles that we may have are likely more noticeable.
Very dark lipstick.
I admit that I am guilty of this mistake. I personally love dark lip tones. However, these make our features look very harsh, so we better avoid them.
Do not outline the lips.
This is an important point. As the years go by, some wrinkles appear around our lips. If we do not apply eyeliner, it is most likely that our lipstick will be watered by these wrinkles and accentuate them, making us look older.
Applying the wrong lip liner.
I know that it is common to see that certain people apply a liner darker than the lipstick. However, it is most recommended to avoid this as it looks unnatural.
Accentuate eyes and lips.
This is something we must avoid. You look more natural and young if you highlight only one of the two things.
If you have a striking makeup on your eyes, it is better to use a soft lipstick, similar to your skin tone. If, on the contrary, you want to use a striking color on your lips, accompany them with a soft style in your eyes.
How many makeup mistakes have you made.
Personally, I have made almost every mistake on the list. However, every day I learn new things and try to improve. I think this is the most important thing, keep practicing and find the ways of application that best suit us.
Besides, I would like to clarify that if you do not agree with something I mention, you can continue to do so without a problem. Like I told you before, I love dark lip colors and shiny shadows, so I use them quite often.
The only thing I want with this post is to give you some tips and provide you with information that perhaps you did not have. But as I always say, makeup is for fun, so apply what you like how you like it. The important thing is that you feel beautiful.
